Default Fleas!!

I found a flea on my Syrian! Is a store-bought spot-on safe to use for my hamsters or do I need a prescription from the vets?

This is the one I’m looking at: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pe...ils-by-beaphar

I’m just about to treat my cat and dogs, then clean the hamster cages and the house. I haven’t found any fleas on my dogs or my cat or other hammies so I think I caught it before it became an infestation luckily!

I’ve used Ivermectin based preparations on my hamsters before as a preventative treatment but I know that from speaking to others who have had issues with mites/lice that sometimes the parasites seem to be resistant to it and something stronger such as Selamectin may be needed but this will only be available with a prescription from a vet.

This is the Ivermectin preparation that I use: https://www.petdrugsonline.co.uk/pha...ops-cage-birds

(It says cage birds but it can be given to both Syrian and Dwarf hamsters)

It's very unusual for hams to get fleas, it most likely came in on a cat or dog so I wouldn't treat with anything unless you see any more signs that there are more fleas on your ham or in the cage, probably just a one off & these treatments aren't without risks so better not to use them unless you really have to.

Like cypher has said its very unusual for hamster to get fleas. If you haven't seen any other fleas I would just monitor your hamster instead of giving any treatment at the moment.
