Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
Hey there everyone!
I've browsed several german hamster forums and sadly couldn't find an answer to my question. So here I am, asking the rest of the world!
I'm looking for a paper based bedding.
Most Germans, currently myself included, use Allspan which is a bedding made of wood shavings.
I've never come across any paper based bedding in shops and stuff like carefresh is only available online for horrendous prices.
Does anyone know a site or better a shop where I can buy this type of bedding for a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
Unfortunately carefresh is quite expensive for the amount of bedding you get most of us prefer to use Fitch bedding for that reason. It’s still expensive but you get A LOT (20kg!) and it lasts forever
https://www.amazon.de/Fitch-Papierst...keywords=Fitch
You can also make paper bedding yourself by soaking paper until it becomes pulp and then drying it out.

Re: Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
Does it have to be paper? Rat rations ship to many countries and they sell Finacard (shredded cardboard). Also Zooplus sell all sorts of bedding - they have hemp bedding.
Rodipet also sell birchwood shavings (hardwood so safe) or hemp bedding.
But if it's for non allergenic bedding then paper is the way to go. Fitch is great - I've been using it for years. Sold in bulk so works out cheap.

Re: Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
Unfortunately that link for Fitch on Amazon.de does say not available and not sure if or when it will be again.
I wouldn't get Carefresh anyway! I wasn't keen on the texture and found it had a fine dust-but then I'm comparing with Fitch.
It looks like you will need to order something online unfortunately. This is the Hemp bedding if you're interested - should last a long time

Unless it's improved since they first started selling it I wouldn't touch that, I found it incredibly dusty & have seen comments by others on how dusty it is too, I was surprised as most of their stuff is really good quality but not that!

Re: Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
Oh thanks for that tip Cypher! I had thought of trying it some time. Kaytee Clean and cosy is a good option if it's not too expensive. There is a paper bedding on Amazon.de called Back to Nature but don't get it! There have been issues with it and suspected deaths after eating it - it's little hard compacted pellets of paper.
For nesting material most people on here use plain white toilet paper torn into strips

Re: Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
Thanks so much for all your replies!
I'm doing good with the bedding I have (Allspan) but I'm looking into other alternatives because I've got quite a few hamsters who were prone to sneezing which could be caused by the little dust that always remains in woodshavings. So far my current hamster is doing fine with Allspan so I don't need to worry.
I just like to provide my hamsters with different kinds of substrates to switch it up sometimes.
Though I do need to consider to order online again

Re: Paper based bedding in Europe/Germany
It is the case that a hamster can be allergic to any type of wood whether it's softwood or hardwood and some hamsters are allergic to it. But it doesn't mean they'd be allergic to hemp bedding which is also sold in bulk
