DIY Large Hamster Cage Finished!
Hey everyone, I haven't been on here in ages, but thought I'd share my little Maisie's new home she had a ferplast Criceti cage for the first 6 months of her time with me, but her bar chewing had become excessive, and I just wanted her to have more space and the fun she deserves (the fact I'm enslaved is quickly becoming evident!). So I recently made a DIY cage, lined with vinyl, fronted with plexiglass, and sealed with aquarium sealant. It's 100cm x 75cm and Maisie moved in today. She appears to love it!! Any suggestions/problems more experienced hamster owners can foresee please share because I've really found feedback from here previously so useful xx

Re: Maisie's New Palace!!
Wow that's awesome! One suggestion I would make is giving her deeper substrate so she can do lots of digging and burrowing which most hamsters love doing. I think most people recommend at least 3".
Your cage looks so good!

Re: Maisie's New Palace!!
Looks good so far I bet she’s enjoying the space!
I agree that it would be good to add deeper substrate for burrowing too. The gaps in the ladders for the platform look very wide so I suggest adding a piece of cardboard to the back of them to make it easier to climb (a lot of hamsters don’t do well with ladders).
What species is your hamster? It’s hard to make setup suggestions without knowing the species.

Re: Maisie's New Palace!!
Your DIY cage looks really good, I am sure Maisie is loving it.
As the other have mentioned I would provide deeper substrate for Maisie to burrow in.
Does the cage have a lid?
