I just found a picture of the new Savic Hamster Plaza cage on their 2016-17 catalogue! It's available from September onwards apparently.

It's 100cm x 50cm x 50cm - has a big front opening door and base looks quite deep. Bar spacing 9.5mm

It's on page 117 of the catalogue

http://www.savic.be/sites/default/files/catalogus.pdf

It's a bit taller than they discussed at 50cm tall, but I'd originally said taller with a deep base for more substrate would be good! So it's probably about the same height as the Alexander cage - maybe a cm or two more. Wish I knew how deep the base was. It would be good with lots of substrate and an extra platform.

Love the big front door Plus no door on top so you could hang as much as you want from the roof.

Didn't see a price on there.

I would love if manufacturers made cages where you could add extra space.I think there are rabbit and guinea pig cages like that but then you'd have to modify every extra portion to make bar spacing safe for hamsters.

It does seem like a good cage, maybe more dwarf sized though if the tray part is still shallow. The door seems like a great size as well!

It's not perfect it's true Amityville - but I think it's great because just over a year ago I wrote to them and asked them to make a 100cm cage with a big front opening door! And they did They've been keeping me updated over the last few months.

I had got fed up of going round the houses trying to find a cage with a large front opening door and Savic make good cages. At first they had said they had thought of a 100cm version of the Hamster Heaven, but this is better in a way as the Hamster heaven is a bit low for a large wheel and especially if you have a lot of substrate in it.

I had originally said - 100cm cage with 30cm base please

Good find!
It does look really nice, it's a shame it's so tall though, about the same size as the Borneo & I was hoping for something similar but not so tall, still tempting lol! With a full level across the top it could work really well & I do l like the look of the door.

Looks nice! I only have short arms though so without a top door I'd struggle to hang things from the top!

If they did a 30 cm base for this I think it's great!Of course, the top frame you can tell would be modular addition friendly. If they manufactured the tray in a way to allow for modular additions as well, that would work just as well as a cage that is already a square meter since you could have it where you add one 50 x 50 section per end and then the cage would be a square meter.Or,width expansions as well!

There are tons of ideas that would make it a better cage to manufacture, but of course 100 x 50 is a good starting point for cage manufacturers and hopefully in the future there will be even bigger cages than that!

When I wrote they said it wasn't economically possible to change all their manufacturing equipment to make a deeper base. That base does look fairly deep to me though - it's hard to tell from the photo, but the bars don't look any taller than my Barney bars, so if the base is 20cm deep then the cage isn't too tall really as that would be full of substrate That's the idea.

If the base is only 16 or 17cm deep like the Barney and Alexander, then yes it's a tall cage.

It's quite easy fixing things to the roof through a large front opening door Pink Neon You can get both arms inside well. Probably easier to do it with the top off the base though.

I just tried counting the bars My eyesight isn't the greatest but I make it 32 bars.

32 x 9.5mm bar spacing makes the bars 30.5 cm tall - which means the base might be about 20cm deep - meaning it's an average height cage with a deep base for substrate. It could well be a 20cm base as that's the minimum depth of substrate requirement by law now in some countries like Switzerland (ie the cages have to fit 20cm depth by law, not the owners have to put 20cm in by law! I think!)

Anyway even if I've got the measurements wrong and it's a standard sized base then it's only a few cm taller than the Barney cage. Set up right it would be fine with one larger shelf and lots of substrate.

I just wish it was 7mm bar spacing! Still 9.5mm is good - less than 1cm.

Also the base seems to have small feet which would be included in the overall height. So without knowing the internal height and height of the base, it's hard to know exactly how much height we're talking about.

But if you look at the picture of that, next to something like the Borneo the bars don't seem as tall.

You could probably modify the outside if you wanted to keep substrate in if you wanted extra depth anyways!Something like an acrylic piece that is 10 cm in height, not sure how easy acrylic would be to attach to the bars though.Maybe do it cheaply with cardboard and then you have a chew that is serving many purposes!

20 cm isn't bad for substrate though, perfect for dwarf hams and decent for Syrians as well.I don't think the overall height would be a problem for every ham,as long as the cage is set up well with as much substrate as possible.

The Borneo is also quite a bit taller at 56cm tall. Just to compare, here are three 100cm cages. The Borneo at 56cm tall with a 16cm base. The Karat at 60cm tall with a 25cm base and the new Plaza at 50cm tall.

It's only the height of the bars that's important in terms of fall risk, if the base is filled with substrate.

And this is the 50cm tall borneo compared with the 60cm tall Mamble and the 46cm tall Barney
