Question Shredded Paper Bedding

In my house we go through tons of paper and that goes through are shredder. Would I be able to use that as bedding or is the ink on the paper a danger to a hamsters well being? Also if ink in not a problem, is colored paper problem? If this is a solution for bedding this would save us costs and would be really handy as an alternative.

Not sure about coloured paper but I don’t think printer ink is very good for them unless its non-toxic? Shredded paper also isn’t very soft as a bedding material either. Plain white toilet tissue is super cheap, soft, and safe for hammies tho!

You could in theory turn the shredded paper into a fitch/carefresh type bedding tho if you pulp it and dry it out again (there should be tutorials online for this)l

I also wouldn’t use it it’s just not suitable. The ink & the fact it’s not absorbent or soft enough. Not coloured paper either as you have no idea what dyes have been used in it.

Agree shredded paper isn't suitable, as well as inks that could be a problem it can also be sharp & potentially injure a ham.

Shredded paper is too rough, your ham could end up with a paper cut. I know whenever I've had a paper cut it's hurt. Unscented toilet paper is what I use.
