Default Re: P@H Extrra Large hamster cage!

I bought this cage today. Went to go for the hamster heaven, but when i lined them up, i thought to myself it actually isnt much smaller ! And £40 is much better priced than £75 seeing as i wouldn't be using the tubes ect in the hamster heaven anyway. In my opinion pets at home have done well My hamster seems to be so much happier. He was in a duna multy before, which didnt have enough room for a 28cm wheel. I tried the 30cm flying saucer but both me and my hamster didnt seem happy enough with it. Even though this cage is slightly under recommendations , it is in my opinion so much better than it used to be. I can see that alot of new hamster owners are more likely to buy this cage than the smaller versions now which is good. I will be writing my own review of this cage soon with pictures, but in my opinion i am so happy with my hamsters cage.
Hopefully i wont have any hate for buying it lol

That is far better than their usual cages! Not perfect of course, but progress is progress.

In my local pets at home, if you're buying a cage on site and it's under the minimum the staff usually say something along the lines of "So you're aware, this is just a starter cage and you will have to get something bigger to accommodate your hamster when it grows" and if you're enquiring about the hamsters but not a cage they actually ask how big the cage you're going to be housing them in is and if it's under minimum they usually tell you what the minimum is!

Which actually is really impressive to me!

Be interested to see what you think of it IFeltz. The 3 I saw in store all had a chunk snapped off the plastic base corners so not very convinced it's of good quality.

Pets at home do sell the ferplast Criceti 15 for £50 which is a good price really, and access is much better. And zooplus sells the Barney for £55 and the Alaska is available for about £35. So in comparison I still don't think £40 is a particularly good price for something smaller. With a 28cm wheel in there I think you'll really be struggling for space, it's bad enough in a 80cm long cage to get what you need in there and usually it just ends up very cramped.

I do agree the hamster heaven is in no way worth £75 though, it looks quite small in person and has a low height too. There are much better options for syrians.

I did inspect mine before deciding to get it. Sofar no problems lol .. i do agree about the door area is in a very awkward space Especially as i have not handled my hamster since the first time i did and he jumped onto my shoulder lol. I was looking to get the criceti but they did not have it in my pets at home store And buying online is not really an option. You are quite right in the fact those cages are cheaper and offer a good amount of space, however for my situation this is the biggest size along with the hamster heaven which is quite over priced The wheel fits with quite a lot of clearance above it which is good. I mean by no way is it better than some of the cages you can get online, however it provides almost the recommended amount which has got to be better than other small and medium variety cages pets at home did My hamster seems fine which is great
I will be making my review and showing pictures later today if you would like to read it

Looking at the platform size, the cage looks to be the exact same size as the Criceti 15 (the platform takes up exactly half the length on each). I’m wondering if the 70cm measurement is taken from the bottom of the base or the wire section since the P@H XL cage almost exactly matches the Criceti’s dimensions otherwise? (Ferplast measure from the widest point)

Usually P@H just rebrand the Ferplast cages to sell but I can’t find a Ferplast cage that exactly matches so I’m wondering if they took the Criceti base and had Ferplast redesign the wire half to be more user-friendly and match the rest of their wire cage range.

Stormy’s going to need an upgrade soon so I’ll probably pick this cage up since it’s in the same price range as the other cages this size (Alaska*, Duna Multy, Criceti 15, Grosvenor) and I’d like to support P@H for finally making a decent size hamster cage.

*I know the Alaska is £5-£10 cheaper but the longer I’ve owned my Alaska, the more I dislike the construction and I feel like the height could be quite intimidating for Stormy. Also it was out of stock last time I looked.

The criceti 15 is definitely bigger. I loved that cage, it’s really nice. I actually measured from each end of the bars to be 69cm for this cage I just rounded up. You would be able to fit quite a bit more in too. Both cages are really quite different though and personally I would 100% go with the criceti over this for just £10 more, better quality build too.

That’s good to know! I was just guessing from the stock images haha as you can tell from the time I posted it, I became some kind sleep deprived cage detective (and not a very good one lol)

The main reason I’m unsure about the Criceti is I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying the plastic parts are hard to attach and fragile. I have a connective tissue disorder that weakens my muscles so I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to build it safely. Otherwise I would choose the it over the P@H cage 100%

I love Zooplus! Unfortunately the Alaska is out of stock and the Barney is far too big for Stormy. She might get another upgrade in the future but for now I feel a cage between 70x40 and 80x50 is best for her.

Ah yeah I think it does come in pieces, why I really don't know. But I didn't assemble my one myself so not a clue how difficult it is, although you'd probably want 2 people ideally. If you can get someone to help you it would be great as when it's all put together it's solid.

Hamster heaven for £55 delivered here as an alternative, so pretty cheap. Not sure why people are complaining that it was fiddly to put together as it's not, but I'm assuming they're talking about the penthouse/tube situation which you'd probably want to ditch anyway!
