How big of a wheel
I bought a 9" silent runner wheel for my little guy. He's just a baby, so it's great for him. Do you think he will outgrow the 9-inch wheel? He's a Syrian.
I'd like to get the sandy track accessory for keeping his nails trimmed, but I will wait if I need to get a 12-inch wheel later.
What do you think?

Re: How big of a wheel
Hi. The 9" should be fine for now but might be a bit small when he's fully grown - depending how big he gets. I wouldn't use a sandy track - it's bad for their feet. They can get sore pads and a nasty condition called bumblefoot. Better to just have a terracotta or granite tile under the water bottle so their nails are roughened every time they go for a drink. I do that and never had any problems with nails - not until our last hamster was very old and inactive and then they needed clipping.

Serendipity, thank you for tipping me off about the sandy track. This is why I like this forum so much.

Re: How big of a wheel
Rodipet do a nice rough granite tile - heavy so best on a shelf. I have it under a mouse sized water bottle and it also soaks up any Sri’s. It only costs about £4 but unfortunately postage costs another £8. Amazon sell it or direct from Rodipet and google translate for the German!
