is this an appropriate hamster temporary house?
My hamster has started to change her behaviour.
She getting to about 1 year old now.
Biting on the bars and seeming more agitated. Which is upsetting to see.
She has a large cardboard playpen (as attached)
And she loves it and seems happier when I put her in.
It has the small, pets at home, cage inside that has a water bottle and a wheel.
Could I use that till I can get a bigger cage.
She has the Alaska at the moment.

Great playpen for supervised play time but I would be concerned that she could chew her way out of the cardboard walls.

Thank you,
I have double layered the walls, the corners are folds and I've layered the joins in the middle of the walls, to try and minimise the risk of chewing out.
I just feel mean putting her back in her cage, she comes up to the door and
gnaws the bars till I come back to let her out.

I can totally understand why you would feel mean if she does that!
You know how strong the walls are. Is the room hamster proof?
Good luck!

Re: is this an appropriate hamster temporary house?
Half of me feels like she knows how to get me to do what she wants.
She's calmed down now but she was doing it for a good few hours today.
I've put a couple of new bits in her cage, so I think that's helped.
If she's the same tomorrow I'm going to get a new cage.
The thing is her cage is pretty big about 600"2 inches.

Re: is this an appropriate hamster temporary house?
I think they do suddenly get more active at certain times. Newtie is about 17 months old and has got much more active - although I sometimes think temperature has something to do with it as well. When it's nice and warm in summer or with the heating on they seem to want to come out more.
The Alaska is a good sized cage - and clearly she has now got a taste for her playpen. If you want to upgrade her then the Barney is a good size and she may be happier and not want to come out so much. Or even a detolf if you have space.

Must be a mad few hours, where she wants to just play, in the afternoon. It has been unusually warm today (british weather).
I did get hamster mail today so given her the new toys.
Her cage is due a good clean out soon and reorganising, give her some entertainment.
