L e d lights
What colours can be used to !ight up a hamsters cage? (Out of their reach naturally).
I have heard that they cant see red lights, what about pink ones??
I wouldnt keep them on all night just for an hour oe so when I felt like watching them.

Re: L e d lights
Genuinely I wouldn't reccomend shining light on them as it startles them and can be an easy way to stress which can lead to WetTail.

Re: L e d lights
I’m not to sure about Pink light I think they should be ok but slightly more visible to a hamster than red would be.
I love using my red light to watch my hamsters as they get up to all sort of mischief and think that I can’t see them!

Certain colours in the light spectrum such as red is a colour that isn’t visible to a hamster (plus many other species of animals) therefore you can use red light at night to observe your hamster without disturbing their normal routine or causing them any stress.

Re: L e d lights
I wouldn't light up a hamster cage directly, I have red lights in my room but not shining into the cages, although they have very poor vision at the red end of the spectrum they are aware of the light.
Pink is probably just a brighter lighter red to them so although they wouldn't see clearly with that they would still be aware that the cage is lighter.

Re: L e d lights
Thanks bubby. I definately wouldnt shine any lights at my hamster but occasionally like to see them at night when they are active.
Skb yes I love the idea og being able to observe them.
Thanks cypher. I will probs just stick to red and not directly on the cage.

Re: L e d lights
FF, I treated myself to a string of little red lights last Xmas from the supermarket. They are felt Rudolf faces and the noses are the lights! Just made me laugh. I have them strung up above the cage on two sides but not on it. The combined lights throw just enough light that I can sit and watch Maestro if I want to but I am sure he knows I am there even if he can't see me.

If hamster vision is anything like mine (I’m super blind), they should be able to see the lights, just not the colour so in hamster vision it will look like white lights!
I know hamsters can definitely see (and chew) pink fairy lights! Please make sure they are securely sttached to the wall so they dont fall down onto the cage like mine did!
