Lightbulb Mission : Habitat

Hi guys! I’m planning to create a new upgraded cage for my grumpy old fuzzy ping pong ball of a hamster, and I need some help. I’ve googled natural cages multiple times and tried looking into how exactly people make them, but I’ve always gotten stuck because of how limited Singapore is when it comes to hamsterscaping, but I’ve researched plenty and have decided what to do. Note that I’m designing the cage to be Syrian and dwarf friendly, and that this is all tentative.

The bedding will be a mix of kaytee aspen and camp clean and cozy, but to save on bedding I’ll dedicate a digging spot for burrowing. The wheel will be the infamous 12” Silent runner, and yes, I have confirmed with others that dwarves can use the 12” because it’s so light. Sadly Singapore doesn’t have much in the way of driftwood or basking wood for reptiles, so unfortunately I can’t get a hold of any java wood or nice branches, so the alternative would be to use Zoo Med’s cork rounds and the large habba hut. I’m also planning on having a few levels with a KNUFF DIY. The sand bath with be a FÖRVAR jar, and I’ll be getting a wooden oval hideaway plus this cute totoro hideout. I’ll add some bendy bridges as dividers and obviously to act as a bridge.

Would appreciate feedback and suggestions on how to make the set up better! Decided not to use moss or soil, and I don’t have any access to oat sprays. To save on money I’m prioritising functionality over aesthetics, without compromising comfort.

This sounds like a nice natural setup! You could maybe add rocks (make sure they are sanitized), Hay (Soft stemmed is the best), and terracotta pots. You can normally find terracotta in a gardening store. Try looking online at Amazon or other online stores in your area for woods. Show us pictures when you are finished!
