Which cage? - new cage needed after robo fall out
Hi guys, I haven't posted anything in a while, and unfortunately I'm back for advice in a tricky situation.
A few mornings ago I noticed that Miller had a small injury close to his behind. It's hairless red and looks quite sore although he's walking fine, eating and drinking fine, and doesn't seem bothered by it. My initial reaction was to take him to the vet, but because he was acting normal I decided against it. A few days later and there are no signs of infection, and it seems to be healing nicely so I think I made the right decision.
I think the obvious conclusion as to how he got his injury is because he must have started fighting with Calvin. I really can't believe its happened because they did seem to get on so well, curl up next to each other when they were sleeping, and give each other confidence when outside of the cage.
I observed them for a few minutes and sure enough when Calvin came near he did start fighting him. I'm still not sure if I was overreacting and he was just playing, but I don't see how else Miller could have got injured, and he was avoiding Calvin and running from him before the fight started.
So I've had to separate them sadly. On the day I went straight to p@h and got a new cage, a medium plastic hamster cage, but ofc it's too small, and I only want to use it temporarily until I can get another.
I've been reading other posts and think for robos it really comes down to the barney cage and the alaska cage? Which out of the two do you guys recommend? and is there any that I have overlooked? I know that tanks are recommended however as a university student I move house almost every year and need something which can be transported easily, which I am under the impression isn't the case with tanks?
Thanks for all your help and sorry for the long winded message

Sorry to hear your boys have fallen out but you made the right decision to separate them & I'm sure they will both be happier now.
There was another thread about robo cages earlier so maybe have a look there.

I would say Barney just because the bars have a smaller spacing and robos can squeeze through small spaces. You could also look into storage bin cages if that would be easier for you being an Uni student. ASDA sell a 2pk of storage boxes which are 80x50 for £25 or you can buy 1 for £16. A little bit of D.I.Y for the ventilation and you have a cage, Plenty of youtube videos on how to do that.

I have a dwarf hybrid in the alaska and a roborovski in the grosvenor which has 1cm bar spacing.

The alaska folds down which makes it a bit easier to transport.
Like the storage box ideas too.

I have the Slavic Mickey 2XL for our Robo. Has narrow 7mm bars and is 80 x 50 and also quite a low cage so diesn’t have fall risk issues. To me it’s the ideal cage for our Robo. Not too big, not too small. But I already had the cage and it usn’t Cheap - usually abou£80 to £86 and only sold on Amazon.
Another alternative to the Barney could be the Ferplast maxi duna multi. A Perspex tank style and also 100cm like the Barney.
Or the Barney cage if you have space. It’s quite a deep bulky cage at 54cm deep. I have it for our Syrian.

Ferplast maxi duna multi isn’t cheap either though. About £8 to £90 with the cheapest price usually being Amazon.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys - I really like the duna multy because it seems that it will be difficult for substrate to fall out so will keep the home clean. Luckily its selling for £43.99 here which seems to be a bargain! :
