Question New Robo Cages

Hi! I was wondering if someone could help me find a new cage for my robo, he is currently in the Pets At Home Medium Hamster Home but i feel like he has outgrown it a bit and would like to start looking for a new one that will keep him entertained. I am also a bit worried about him slipping through the bars because i know that robots can fit through tiny gaps?
Thank you

Yes for sure he will need a bigger cage! The ones that P@H sell are not suitable for any hamster. It all depends on your personal budget, you could make a bin cage and ASDA sell a storage bin big enough for that at £16. You would need to ventilate it of course. There are plenty of Youtube videos with tutorials. Wilko is a great place for the tools you would need if you don't have some already.

An 80x50 size cage would be the minimum I would recommend. If you are willing to spend some money, Zooplus have the Barney cage at £54.99 and to be honest you will be paying around £50+ for a cage that size unless you catch a sale somewhere. make sure the bar spaces are pretty small too, 7-8mm between bars I do believe as they are small and can escape. You could also go to tank style cages.

Also I would highly advise you get a decent wheel if you haven't already. An 8" would be best but I heard you could also use a 6.5" Zooplus have a trixie wheel currently for £5.99. I would also advise if you do get a bigger cage/bin make sure you have plenty of substrate, hidey holes, tunnels, toys and chews as an open space would scare them since they are prey animals. Plenty of things for them to do when you are asleep. Hope this helps

The P@H cages are small & I'm sure your robo would enjoy more space but not all are comfortable with really large cages so I would recommend the Savic Mickey 2 it's a good size without being too big or too tall so little risk of falls & the bar spacing is suitable for robos, it does come with a metal shelf which needs to be removed as it's not safe for hamsters but once the base is filled with substrate you don't actually need a shelf at all, it also has the advantage of a really big front door for easy access.

Barred cages are fine robos are just quite clumsy and not very good at climbing so definitely set it up safely (to break falls).
I prefer tank cages for robos - Duna maxi multy looks really nice. My robo loves her detolf tank and also her zoozone 2 cage. I’ve actually set that up on one level so the top doesn’t need meaning but wouldn’t go about recommending that to others. Very easy to underestimate how much space robos need - they’re small but very very active so a big set up with lots of places to hide is the best way to go about it I think

My robo Sundae loves his Duna Multy! I believe its just under 80x50cm so its a good size for a robo. I’ll try to get photos of his set up later but ive used bendy bridges to split a third of the cage off and filled it with sand to make a desert area which he loves! The other 2 thirds are filled with super deep woodshavings for burrowing and plenty of toys for him to climb and hide under.

I recommend avoiding cages with lots of bars or platforms because robos are so clumsy.

The duna multy is the cheapest option About £34 from Porton Aquapet. I had our Robo in a Kerry Terrarium at first but moved him to a barred cage as I couldn't get on with top access only. I have the Savic Mickey 2XL - it's a great cage for a Robo as it has low height and narrow bar spacing - but it's expensive - about £86 and only sold by Amazon these days. The duna multy is probably easier than the Kerry Terrarium for access as it's a different shape and lower.

Or a detolf is a good option if you have the space. £50 but you'd need to make a couple of lids.
