A 10kg bag doesn't take up much space really.
Most of the good substrates tend to come in bulk, some people use Megazorb but I find that really dusty & I think it comes in big bags too.
You can also get Kaytree clean & cosy from Amazon, that does come in smaller bags but works out more expensive & I would only use the plain white, not the ones that have things added.
ETA I meant to add that in the UK wood shavings are safe to use if you prefer to use that, some hams can be allergic to it though.
There is also hemp which you can get from Zooplus. Hugro hemp is the softest one I've found, the other brand can have sharp bits in it.

I’m really sorry- like an idiot I didn’t see the link in your first post. 🤦🏻*♀️ I had no idea UK wood shavings were safe, that is a relief. The fitch does seem like an option.
Has anyone seen the recycled paper bedding sold in Pets at Home? Is that any good?
Many thanks

Re: Substrate
I haven't seen that paper bedding from P@H but checking online it looks like very small bags, you're going to need a lot of substrate initially to make up a good 15-20cm layer in the bottom of the cage so that would work out very expensive, once you've got the cage set up you don't need to replace much of the substrate very often so it might be ok for top ups but I would go for something in larger bags or bulk to begin with.

Re: Substrate
Ok, I trust your expertise I will look into ordering a big bag of fitch bedding for little Clover. Thank you for all your help!
