Question Anyone tried this cage before?

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has had this cage before Pawhut 115Lx60Wx58H cm Wooden Hamster Cage. My parents are wanting to get this cage for our syrian hamster as shes a bar chewer and the vet has suggested getting a vivarium style cage for her with no bars but i wasnt sure if it was suitable thanks

I wouldn't recommend a wooden cage for a bar chewer as she may just decide to chew the wood instead, bear in mind too that the wood would need to be painted with ham safe paint like plastikote water based enamel to make it waterproof.
You would do better to go for a glass tank type cage.

I'd also suggest getting a plastic or glass tank. A wooden cage like that would be so hard to clean and get smells out of. I'm sure there's good sized tanks you can get for the same price

Question Re: Anyone tried this cage before?

Final choice is between the eco habitat or the skyline 100. Im wondering if a 28cm wheel will fit comfortably in the skyline and will there be enough space for levels and deep substrate and in the future we are planning on joining her existing Alexander cage with the new viv so which would be easier and if we got the eco habitat we would have to cover up the base.

Cant chose between the skyline and the eco habitat we are gonna be getting it off ebay for cheaper than what it is on zooplus either way so if anyone knows which is better please let me know

A 28cm wheel will fit in the Skyline Marrakesch - but the 12" silent runner won't (I think). The 12" silent runner is 35cm tall. However if you wanted one, it comes with cage mounting plates and a long bolt - instead of the stand - and it might be possible to drill a hole in the end of the marrakesch and mount the wheel that way. Or just use a 28cm wheel!

Eco habitat has more space but needs a bit of diy. Marrakesch is a lovely tank style - not as much floorspace but has a good lid. I think you could make it interesting with a level in it. Also with it being lower, access to your hamster might be easier.

You might be better selling the Alexander if she's a bar chewer
