Chew-Friendly Toys
Hiya!
My new hammy, Puff, is a big chewer. Of course, all hamster are chewers to some extent, but Puff seems to chew on anything and everything she can get her teeth on. It’s only as she becomes accustom to her new toys that she stops chewing on them. But I’m quite cautious and do not want her to chew on things such as plastics and the tub of her cage for the welfare of her teeth.
She was prone to biting the bars of the cage in one corner of her cage, but with some time and a lot of cardboard I believe she has grown to stop. She then moved on to chew parts of her plastic tunnel, which I took out in fear that it’ll damage her teeth. I am looking to put it back in at some time as she does love her tunnels. She has since moved on to chewing the blue tub of her Barney Cage. I have put a lot of cardboard and chew toys in the corners where she is prone to doing this, but it doesn’t seem to have stopped her fully.
Thus, I’m looking for chew-friendly toys that I can buy in order to, hopefully, cease her chewing in places that she shouldn’t. Does anyone have any ideas? As long as they’re both chewable and fun for her they should be okay. Preferably on the cheaper side, but I will splurge if needed
Also, I bought a chew toy a few weeks ago and foolishly didn’t look to see whether it was suitable for hammies. I saw that it was marketed for all small pets, but as we probably know that it’s better to be safe. It’s the Naturals Gnaw Stone Stack from Rosewood. It contains Loam (62%), Wood (36%), and Carrot (2%). It also states that they use only natural ingredients. Could anyone tell me whether this is safe for Puff to use?
Thank you!
- Aimee

Re: Chew-Friendly Toys
The Naturals Gnaw Stone Stack should be fine, tbh I haven't found that many chew toys that they actually like but almost all hams go crazy for whimzee dog chews, most people get the toothbrush ones, if you haven't tried those definitely worth a go. Some hams like the willow or hazel sticks too, dandelion root (just a small piece now & then due to it's herbal properties) can be good too.

Re: Chew-Friendly Toys
You may want to try her with a wicker tunnel, sea grass tunnel or a thicker cardboard tube (sold for hamsters, guinea pigs or rabbits.
They are ok for her to chew and also a tunnel to run through.
Keep the plastic tunnel for out of cage playtime, where you are supervising her and can remove it as soon as she starts chewing.

Re: Chew-Friendly Toys
Definitely a whimzee! My hams past and present loved them. Also the lollipop stick toy (it's a bit like a bendy wooden bridge toy, very amusing watching my ham attack his. Both from pets at home.
