Default Best Substrate for not sticking to fur?

Hi, so I have a long haired syrian and his current wood substrate managed to clump in his fur so bad that when he went for a check up, the vet clipped the knots out. So now I'm wondering, is paper based substrate better for not clumping? I've found some good deals on carefresh and kaytee clean and cozy so if anyone could let me know, I'd be very grateful

PS: I understand pellets could work but I feel that may be too uncomfortable

I used to use wood shavings for my long haired Syrian before I found out they aren't great, they used to get all tangled in his butt fluff too. I switched to Hemp bedding from Zooplus which is £16 for a 14kg bale that lasts months and months if you only do monthly full cleans with spot cleaning, and I do put a really decent amount in the cages for burrowing. It's never stuck in his fur like wood shavings did. It's great at odour control, my flat never smells like hamster, not even in the rooms they're in. The bedding itself has a really natural, nutty smell to it. I think another popular hemp based bedding is Auboise, it's usually cheaper but I've never been able to find a reliable, consistent supplier so I just stick with the Zooplus hemp

We use fitch bedding which is paper based. You can get it direct from them or via Amazon. It lasts ages if you get a big bale.
If you are not showing your hammy there is no reason why you can't clip the coat shorter as this makes them much more comfy and easy to care for. It's just like a hair cut!
