Default My old hamsters & cages (Bad cages)

So I have been looking through old family photos recently and I've found quite a few photos of our hamsters. I thought it would be really interesting to show some of the photos on here. I know that all these cages are awful but me and my family weren't educated when we had these hamsters.

Our first hamster was called Boris, a Syrian, given to us by some family friends whose baby was allergic, I was about 3 at the time (2002ish). These are the only photos I could find and they are quite bad quality. The cage has a wire shelf and ladder and very small base. The wheel is plastic I believe but with gaps in it so also not good!

I believe our next hamster was Toto, also Syrian, (my 7th birthday present since I really wanted one!). Since I was 7 I really wanted the rotastak princess palace cage. I can't actually find any photos of Toto but I found a photo of his cage and the next hamsters cage which I will put here. He never used his wheel, probably was too small for him :/ I often forgot to close the cage doors so many times I would get told off and several times he escaped.

Then we had Bubbles, my sisters Syrian, she was pretty big from what I remember and we had her in such a small cage which I feel really bad about! I think it was like a savic protos or something. I think her wheel was 18cm in diameter which was too small for her! She would constantly bar climb which was an indicator of boredom (needing a bigger cage) which we didn't pick up on!

Next we had my sisters Roborovskis, Chocolate and Caramel. Oh boy is this one awful! We had them in a tiny savic spelos! We gave them so little substrate so they couldn't dig really either. From what I remember and what others remember they didn't fight which I suppose is one upside? If it's true.

I currently have a Roborovski called Tofu, she is living in a cage roughly 60x40cm but as soon as I can I'm upgrading her into a bigger cage. Her wheel is big enough for her, she has plenty of toys, out of cage time etc.
I am really regretful of how we kept our old hamsters but in the end I know it was my parents responsibility so I try to not let it get to me too much.
