Default Paper Bedding?

Does anyone know a cheaper paper-based beddings for Rodents?

My mom seems to have allergy for any wood-shavings.

If suggesting Fitch, I live in Switzerland so I don't have access to that other than Carefresh and Small nesting material that is like a small pack.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I use either of the following three, paper-based bedding for my hamster, and I use tissue for their nesting material. I usually wait to stock up on any of these three items when they are on sale and then buy them in bulk to save money, lol. These are the regular, non-sale prices for these items, but I can often purchase them for cheaper during the holidays, promotion days, etc. I am not sure if you can get any of these in Switzerland, but hopefully this will help you compare prices and see what other members have found working well for their hams. Good luck. I hope that you will find something that works well for you, your budget, your ham, and your mother's allergies.

Hamster bedding can be cheap and can be expensive. The cheap ones that people use are Vitakraft Dreamy Soft Bed for Hamsters and Wood Shavings. However, some wood shavings that stores sell can be harmful to your hamsters. Please be careful for what bedding you are choosing.

I know the dangers of wood shavings, but the ones I buy are mostly kiln-dried. I don't think the Vitakraft Dreamy Soft Bed is even safe as it looks like cotton fluff to me.

HammyBoy1000 as far as I can see Vitakraft Dreamy Soft Bed is 100% cotton which means it isn't safe to use for hamsters, cotton can cause blockages if swallowed & fibres may also get caught around legs causing injury.

NEVER use fluffy/cotton bedding! Ive heard lots of horror stories of hamsters that have died because of it It is so bad for them and i wish pet stores would stop selling them!

i agree with dreamtree- the cheapest and most safe/reliable brands of bedding I trust is Kaytee Clean n Cozy and any Carefresh hamster bedding that isnt coloured! call me old fashioned but i personally would NEVER give my hamster brightly coloured bedding like the "Colourful Creations" line. Carefresh Ultra, Custom (for hamsters and gerbils) and Natural are good options instead. If youre opting for Kaytee, be very careful not to get the Clean n Cozy in Lavender scent! Ive heard of pets dying because of the strong scent! I smelled a ripped open bag at my pet store, and it lingered and stuffed my nose for around 10 minutes! Scented bedding will cause excessive sneezing, respiratory issues and more problems! please be careful xx

Try out Hemp bedding as an alternative, you can find it in shops for agriculture/horse supplies or on zooplus's website. And it is way cheaper than paper bedding..
It isn't complete dustfree but it is reduced to only get dusty whn you change the bedding, and since it is used to animals with allergies and respitory problems, it should be ok to use.
However you should supply with a area with sand or other nesting material to dig in, as itsn't the best to dig in.

Ad no Vitakraft's Dreamy Soft isn't safe at all, I have heard so many warnings about it.
