Default Cover for aquarium needed?

Hi guys, I'm finally updating my hamsters cage from a bin cage to an aquarium. The aquarium will be 90x50 cm and 45cm tall. Do you guys think I'll be needing a meshed lid? I don't plan on putting any decks or a second floor for a while.

I would definitely suggest getting a meshed lid and making sure it is secure and hamster-escape proof. 45cm isn't tall at all considering that there will be a wheel and houses, etc. in the tank. Your hamster could climb on them and jump to escape. Hamsters are excellent and very resourceful escape artists, and it only takes a second. I wouldn't risk taking the chance of having a potentially scary Houdini ham experience.

I agree that you really need a lid, 45cm isn't that tall really when you will have things in the cage on top of the substrate which will make it possible for your ham to escape, something they're very good at!
Having a lid also means you can make full use of the space you have with plenty of deep substrate & a level of some kind to maximise space.

^^^ As everyone else has already pointed out, hamsters are great escape artists and so i recommend you get a lid. Just make sure it is meshed though so that the cage us provided with good ventilation
