Noiseless Wheels?
Hiya!
I believe I’m in need of a new wheel for my new hamster, Puff, as my current wheel (the Trixie Excerise Wheel) is making too much noise and keeping me up at night. I’m in need of some sleep I’ve tried everything from attaching it to the cage, to attempting to put material in between the wheel and the stand to decrease the banging.
I am considering on whether to splurge on a 12” Silent Spinner at around £23 and was wondering if it was worth the money and genuinely silent? Or at least quiet enough as to not keep me up. Other than that, would a Flying Saucer be a good option? They seem relatively quiet compared to most wheels. Are there any restrictions to using them as opposed to a mainstream wheel? Puff had used a Flying Sauced in the pet shop, so I know she’s had them before.
Thank you!

Re: Noiseless Wheels?
Hello fellow Welsh person!
I haven't really tried many wheels but the two we have at the moment are almost silent. I don't really realise they're on their wheels until my cats have to alert me that something 'exciting' is happening. We've got the Trixie Wooden wheels;

We have a 21cm one and a size down since it's a lot bigger than my dwarfs needed. Mallow has the bigger and Flora has the smaller. I've not tried a flying saucer since mine would go flying, so maybe someone else has some input on them. I probably won't replace the wooden ones we have mo as we're pretty happy with them, along with the girls

Re: Noiseless Wheels?
There was a post on the forum a while ago by madkatherine , I did this and it works wonders irrespective of which type of vertical wheel you have.
Make your wheel really silent
What I'm trying to say is, get any wheel that is good even if not marketed as "Silent", use this little hack and save money and headaches.

Re: Noiseless Wheels?
I wouldn't use a saucer as the main wheel, they do tend to be fairly quite although some do squeak but they can slide about & bang into things & also the running position isn't really good for them.
The only two wheels I know which are really silent are the wooden wheel Velle mentioned & the silent runner (not the silent spinner!).

Hiya, ffrind!
Puff tends to pee in his wheel - marking his territory or just too lazy to go anywhere else, I don’t know - so if I did buy the wooden wheel would that be a problem? I’ve heard that pee does stain and that it’s pretty difficult to clean and remove.
Diolch!

Re: Noiseless Wheels?
Peeing on wood is a problem so if you use a wooden wheel you need to give it a couple of coats of Plastikote water based enamel, it's available from various places in different colours.
Cross post!
