Default Corner levels???

Hi everyone, the new cage I bought my hamster Bertie doesn't have any levels or ladders etc. Will he be ok without different levels? Also I'm sure you can buy little triangle corner levels but not sure from where?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Levels are certainly not necessary in the cage. If you think about when hamsters live in the wild, they only have one large space without any "platforms" so in a way having no levels is positive as it mimics their habitat in the wild however hamsters do like exploring different levels so overall, without or with levels you will have a happy hamster

You don't need to have levels, but it might be a nice variation for you. You can make little platforms or you can buy attachable shelves which are usually for rats or birds. Just make sure that you have deep bedding underneath it as hamster have the tendency to just walk off the edge as they have poor eyesight.

Alternatively, you could put in a very deep bedding and put in lots of tunnels and little wooden bridges. You can build up one side of your cage deeper than the other too, and have little wooden bridges on their sides to break up levels. That way you can have both good digging areas and also different heights for them to experience.

I can't find any images online of what I mean, but it's sort of like how rice paddies are built up in China
