Default Thoughts on Kaytee Clean and Cozy

I usually use Megazorb in my cages but I usually keep some paper-type substrate for hospital cages and in my maternity tanks. I have been using Carefresh but I’ve recently come across a listing on Amazon UK for Kaytee Clean and Cozy at what I think I is probably a fair price and I wondered if anyone had any thoughts or experiences on it?

I think Simon and Syril has been using some I saw a video review of it, along with other substrates, that was very positive and supposed to be a lot better than Carefresh, good texture and not dusty. It's described as wood pulp, the same as Carefresh, but presumably a different kind of process if the texture is different. I was tempted to try it but then found Fitch and am happy with that so never got round to trying it.

I got some a few months back to try it because they had it for a special price on amazon. The smaller white bag that I got wasn't as soft and had a different texture from the big bag. I've not bought a smaller white bag again because it's more efficient to buy the bigger bag so I don't know if it was a one off that the texture was different. I found it a lot less dusty than carefresh.

I've bought a couple of the coloured bags, in the smaller sizes for the playpens and they have been as soft as the big white bag. The hamsters seem to like it and it holds their tunnels well

I got a big bag after BP mentioned trying it out before, it has a lighter texture than fitch, a bit more like tissue but not quite that fine, smaller pieces too, no smell or anything & reasonably dust free, comparable to fitch in that respect.
I thought it was pretty good, unfortunately my boys didn't agree! Just being awkward I think as they've had fitch all their lives.

I cannot compare it to what you have in the UK, but Kaytee Clean and Cozy is a staple for our hammies. My daughter and I find it softer and less dusty than the Carefresh. In our experience you get more of the Kaytee than the Carefresh in similar sided bags. It is also more breathable making it my preferred option for the warmer months. Plus we seem to not pull out as much of the Kaytee when spot cleaning, so it lasts longer.

I have recently swapped to this Katee clean and cozy as I also found it at a very cheap price on Amazon, Ghost used to have wood shavings as substrate but swapped it all out for the Katee and he loves it, he has built two nests in it and loves to burrow in it. I would happily recommend it, the lack of dust is great and it seems to be nice and soft, one thing the packing says that it expands to 3x volume I think it expands 2x at the most.

I use it alot! This is a very common paper based bedding in the States. It is either that or Carefresh. Personally, I like both. Although for the really long haired Syrians, it tends to get stuck in their fur. I have to brush Tinsel daily to make sure that none of the bedding gets matted in his fur. He is extremely lazy though so that might have something to do with it. Kilian loves Kaytee Clean and Cozy though. I can get it pretty cheap on a local website.

Hope this helps! It also holds smells really well too. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5. (just because I have to brush Tinsel everyday)

Thank you everyone!

I've ordered some to try and it arrived earlier today. I'm going to use it next time I clean Charlotte's cage as she's on Carefresh at the moment (as that was what I had handy in the hamster room when I arrived home with her and I wanted to get her settled) so I'll see what she makes of it.

I'm still planning to use Megazorb in the regular cages as it seems to suit the hamssters well but I'd like an alternative for the hospital and maternity cages that is reasonably low allergy.
