Default Cage issues

Will a 25 by 14 inch bin work for a friend’s hamster? The hamster in question is currently living in an extremely small 8x9 1/2 inch cage. We know this is absolutely unacceptable, but will the ham be able to stay there for a week more while we build her new bin cage? How can we help her tolerate the tiny cage until her new, suitable home is in the works? We are trying to minimize the amount of time she has to stay there as the tiny cage is, well, tiny. The cage is so pitifully small. I have another spare cage that’s 10x12 inches (Also far too small!!) and I’m wondering whether she can stay there. It’s definitely an improvement, but the question here is whether the ham can stay in a less-than-ideal cage for the meantime.

A 25 inch by 14 inch bin would be much better - if it's for a dwarf hamster it may be ok - it's about 60cm by 40cm - depending on how active the hamster is. I would move her to it straight away to avoid the stress of the tiny cage. Just put her in the bin without the lid on and set it up with substrate, toys etc, until you get chance to make another one into a bin cage. Assuming it's tall enough she can't escape.

Unfortunately, although it would be a good upgrade from the tiny cage, 25x14 inches is still considered too small. Do you have an IKEA near you? Their bins are perfect for bin cages - https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/...-spr-69903214/

Even if it's only a temporary bin, as Serendipity suggested without a lid if it's tall enough or you could get some mesh & bend it over the top, weigh it down with something to stop escapes, it would be best in the meantime while you fix up a larger bin properly.
I don't really think a ham can stay in that tiny cage, it must be very stressful & even with out of cage time they still need enough room for the basics in any cage.

I don't think she has an Ikea Simon and Syril She's in the Philippines. Bin cage sizes hard to find (it's on another thread). A diy cage may be the best option long term.

There are two IKEAS in the Philippines now that I think about it that is quite a small chance Yes DIY cages do seem like the best ideas

I think it was on another thread that Salty Pickles said there was going to be an Ikea but it was too far away

I found a bin that’s perfect- 45 by 30 inches. Problem is it’s quite short, only just tall enough to fit a hiding place. I can attach a wheel, but there will have to be a slat in the lid for the wheel to poke out, though the hamster will still be able to use it. Will this be okay?
