Question housing my robo?

im getting a robo soon, the ikea near me opens may 10th so im going to build a diy cage. i was wondering if in the mean time i could put it in an fish tank that is slightly too small? im very impatient (because of some mental health problems e.c.t) :P it would not be long before he would be upgraded to a bigger cage

(the fish tank is about 65x30cm, the DIY cage im making is the billy cage ((80x28 )) )

I think both are too small tbh, 80x28 isn't much more than half the size of the cages I use for my hams & it would be quite difficult to set up being so narrow, I would consider either buying a cage or looking at a larger DIY cage, a lot of people use the Ikea Detolf which is a better size.
Even as a starter cage I do think the fish tank would be too small, have a think about the things you will need to put in it, a large enough wheel & house, sand bath, toys & hideouts, all those take up a fair bit of space.

80cm is fine but it's the depth that's too narrow - it should be about 45cm ideally. A few people have made the Linmon diy cage using Ikea things - I think there's a video on youtube about it. Two billy units together would be fine too - I think Erin's hamsters has one like that.

This is the Linmon cage

For a bin cage this bin is a good size but it's not cheap - about the same price as a cage - but the dimensions are good and they are good quality bins that are supposed to cut easily.

2 Billy units will be more than enough space but what is wrong with the large cage you used for your past hamster?

Aha - you need Fitch - it's sold in bulk - I get a 10kg bag which costs about £17 and lasts me for about 6 months with a 100cm cage. They also do a 20kg for only £2 more - it is rather large though and needs storing indoors. You don't need to do big clean outs - you can just spot clean and they may use a sand bath as a potty as well - so you shouldn't need to do a substrate change for 2 to 3 months at least, and even then you can replace the dry half. The bigger the cage and the more substrate you have in it, the less you use basically.

I find our robo does such tiny pees they evaporate basically I can't even find where to spot clean.
