I don’t know what thickness acrylic Arnold Syrian Ham, but for my DIY cage I used 6mm. Although I would probably recommend going slightly thicker as my acrylic ever so slight bows out.

The perspex really is quite thin the lid I have keeps it in place but when I take it off it does bow out a little bit I feel if I did not have a lid it would bow significantly more than it does now. I suggest 10mm thickness mine is slimmer than this!

I did not varnish the wood at all I bought mfc chipping board and put it together as it is. I used aqua sealant (safe for hamsters) where all the sides of the wood joins to stop any urine leaking down the gaps or absorbing into the actual wood where it is cut. You cannot put the sealant on the sides where the perspex is attached as it just peels right off again which is why there are brackets holding it in place.

Quickly adding that you wont need any sort of varnish for the wood itself if you buy mfc as it has a coated shiny surface all mfc is water proof apart from the sides where its been cut hence the sealant
