Wow the Ikea one is massive!

I added the sandbath in already and once I upgrade it with carefresh and more hideouts, I will update you guys!

The ladder seems okay to me, only one part of it is in the air and it is not too high for Loki to actually fall from it, I was thinking that when I put more substrate in, it will be even lower, co maybe I could keep it? He seems to love climbing on it and watching everything around :/ But I would not want him to get hurt!

Othewise, thanks for the cage suggestions - I like both Barney and Alaska (and Alaska is actually avalaible in my country, which is great, I will be careful when setting it up later because of the height) - the hamster heaven I was able to find (mainly on ebay) was so expensive :/

I'm so sorry guys! This was meant for another post but I had this up at the same time so wrote in the wrong box. My bad. Really not doing a good first impression am I?

But I can really recommend zooplus for buying stuff. Got almost all my hamsterstuff from there, they have everything even for my little country. My Little lady always pee in her sandbath (and wheel) making it really easy to clean.
Looki seems to have a pretty nice with you

The ladder is just not worth the risk, if you want a ladder that hooks onto the bars you can buy bendy bridges with little hooks or you could probably fix some hooks into the end of a normal bendy bridge.
I didn't notice the chains on the ladder before but chains really aren't safe either, little feet can get trapped, it may have seemed ok so far but I'm a great believer in better safe than sorry!

Okay! Thanks for the opinion, I will invest into bendy bridges and take the ladder out. I agree it is better to be safe.

So, an update on my cage.
I researched my options and also had a look around, on the duna maxi cage (which was big but also hard to get in my country), on reviews on Alaska cage etc and in the end I solved it by buying a bin cage - also because I had a trip to Ikea anyway. I bought the Samla ikea bin (I believe its around 78 x 56 cm), I was not a fan of bin cages, but seeing the prices I thought this was a good solution for now and I can save up for Barney cage, but my hamster can already enjoy much more space.
I kept the previous cage in any case and Loki has moved to his new cage.
Here is the setup, what do you guys say? Any sugestions? It is really first time setting up something this big.
I will add sand into the empty box (its on its way) and I have one more house on a way, but he has a nice hideout under the bendy bridge for now. The lower corner is a burrow area and Loki is there already happily eating in his bowl

Thanks for any feedback!

Might I ask how much substrate you use? With a layer of about 20 cm they can burrow.
Perhaps a runningwheel that's about 17-20 cm? So he runs with a straight back in his wheel.

Other then that Loki's cage looks colourfull and roomy! Also he's adorable!

I have around or more 10 cm everywhere and then more than 20 in one of the corners, I might add more if you suggest that! (now I mixed the old substrate from his old cage, so it smells familiar and I will experiment and see what he likes).
The running wheel might look small, but from what I have seen, he doesnt bend his back on it, but in the future I want to get a nice standing on its own wheel that will be larger for sure (It would not fit into the previous cage, so now I have the option too, thanks for the sugestions!)

It looks good.

My hamsters like a platform. My Barney cage came with one, but I made one for my tank. Just a plank of wood cut to length and four wooden dowels screwed in place for legs.

Two access ramps are enjoyed, so they go up one along the platform and down the other.

Your hamster may like one to. It is useful to put a water bowl on. That way substrate doesn’t go into the water and water isn’t spilled if the hamster digs/burrows in the substrate.

Your cage seems okay so long as you give him the toys he needs, but if you really want a better cage for Loki.

I'd suggest the Alaska Hamster Cage for starters or a small upgrade. It's slightly smaller than the Barney Hamster Cage but it offers great things as it comes with a hideout and a large deck. An advantage to it is also the large doors from the front and top. The Barney Hamster Cage is a great upgrade as well, better than the Alaska if you want more than what the Alaska can offer.
I haven't gotten a Barney Hamster Cage yet, but I do think the Barney Hamster Cage may be a better upgrade for your hamster if you want it. It already has a wheel, a platform with ramp and a hideout. The disadvantage it seems are the smaller two front doors with only one large top door.
