Question Syrian and Dawf mix???

hello everyone,
Yesterday my friends sister got a new hamster called popcorn and my friend is going to get one as well on Saturday.
She said she was at first going to get only 1 but apparently she researched that a Syrian hamster and a Dawf hamster could live in the same cage together.
Is this true?
thanks

No a Syrian and Dwarf hamster can not be housed in the same cage as they are two different species. Also Syrians are strictly solitary animals so should always be housed on their own - which could lead to the Syrian attacking the dwarf hamster or vice versa (as dwarfs also live happily on their own)

Also another hamster even a dwarf cannot be introduced to Popcorn - as once they have been housed on their own another’s dwarf can’t be introduced either as fight could also occur.

If you friend wants a hamster it will have to live in it very own cage and never be introduced to popcorn.

What SKB said I'm not sure where your friend researched! All over the internet there is a lot of info that says Syrians must always live alone - they are a solitary species. Dwarf hamsters can live in pairs but only if they are siblings and have always been together. Even then they can fight and need separating, and then you need two cages. It's usually recommended for a new or inexperienced owner to just get a single dwarf hamster too. With a pair the cage set up can be fiddly to avoid territorial behaviour and fighting. Or a single syrian!

That isn't very good, majority of pet store worker have very basic knowledge of hamster I often hear incorrect advise given - as a Syrian most definitely can never live/or cohabitate with another hamster.
I am really worried of the outcome if she puts a Syrian in with Popcorn!
