Just posted on your other thread about bedding options
There are different views on kiln dried softwood shavings. Some people feel it's fine if they are kiln dried and dust extracted. Some people feel that any level of phenols in softwood could be harmful. (Kiln drying removes some of the phenols but not all). Hardwoods are fine. Cedar is always a no-no is at is known to be harmful and has the highest level of phenols.
Some hamsters are fine with wood shavings but some can be allergic (to either softwood or hardwood).
I just decided to use something else as there are a number of options
I linked Fitch paper bedding and hemp bedding on your other thread. Carefresh can work out expensive and is a bit dusty in my opinion.
If you really like using wood shavings and your hamster isn't allergic, then Zooplus sell Chipsi Classic pet bedding, which is popular with the Germans (Germany has stricter levels of kiln drying than the Uk). It is a mix of pine and spruce. Spruce is a softwood but is equivalent to a hardwood in terms of phenols (ie negligible). So it's a better option than all softwood.

And yes you can mix 2 or even 3 types of bedding
Paper and wood mixed may help tunnels hold better if your hamster gets into tunnelling. I mixed them for a while before switching over to Fitch completely and found our hammy tended to pick out the bits of Fitch to add to his nest as it's nice and soft.
Oh yes there is also finacard! Which is soft pieces of cardboard bedding. Personally I find it's best mixed with something else than on its own
