Default Re: Hamster Cage help please - CONFUSED!

Another option could be the detolf! People set up all kinds of themes in there. It's an Ikea glass cabinet tipped on its side (costs about £40) and looks really nice stood on top of 2 kallax units with storage under. It's quite long but not as deep as the cages - still deep enough - and you can add all kinds of things on one level. A lot of people make hamster toys etc out of cardboard and lolly sticks too! And you can paint them different colours with this (it's the only hamster safe paint I know of and it's waterproof) - comes in a range of colours.

Only thing with a detolf is - you need a bit of diy to make a lid (2 lids usually) out of strips of wood and mesh - if you don't mind that. Here are some examples.

Here are some fun colourful set ups

Don't get the Imac Fantasy - the bases aren't deep enough. We made the mistake of getting a fun cage when stepson was 6 and had to upgrade within 6 weeks as poor hamster was depressed and getting stuck in tubes. It's better to have a large open space and then put fun interesting things in it

Be careful buying hamster toys too - most are too small for syrians and only big enough for dwarf hamster, and a lot are quite dangerous - badly made and with nails etc.

It could be more fun to make some colourful little houses etc out of tissue boxes, decorated.

Cardboard is ok - but no fabric or it can cause blockages when chewed.

One toy that is colourful and popular with most hamsters, is this little rainbow bridge

You can also get fun boredom breaker woodies chews

These balls are good for cage toys too - you can stick treats like sunflower seeds in them

Or she might like this little carrot patch

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rosewood-An...Q6Z0XMW8FVFBN6

Or these animal hides are usually big enough for a Syrian

The main thing is that she gets a bond with the hammy and can handle it and enjoy spending time with it.
