Default Ideas needed for a Silent Runner

Matthew has a 9" Silent Runner and he loves it but the base seems to slide around quite a bit and consequently the wheel bangs against the glass shelves of his cage making a dreadful racket (Matthew loves to make a noise).

Does anyone know how I can stop the base sliding around? Matthew lives in a 3 shelf Perfecto tank so I can't attach the wheel to the side of the cage.

They do slide around a bit, what I do is glue either lolly sticks or dowels onto the shelf leaving enough space for the wheel base between plus a little extra so it's not too tight a fit (if the wheel isn't on a wooden shelf you can just do the same with a piece of card but it may not work so well) then I put some toilet tissue under the wheel base, a few sheets in length folded in half is just the right size, Zen always used to try to pull the tissue out & almost topple the wheel over on top of her so that's something to watch out for but the boys have all been fine with theirs.

Put something heavy on the base? A stone or tile or something under the substrate.

This used to happen in a bin cage I owned, so I used a few pieces of industrial Velcro on the base & bin and then covered the base with substrate. Worked like a charm!
