Old ''let's see your cages'' threads?
Hi everyone! Long time no see!
After the passing of my little boy, my mother and sister had me know that they had gotten me a little syrian girl. She will be ready to leave the breeder on the 27th this month, so I was looking for all the old ''let's see your cages!'' threads so I could get some inspiration. As some of you know, I have only ever had dwarf hamsters, so I'm a bit lost on what to get!
Does anyone know what happened to all the old cage layout threads? I tried searching for them but they seem to have vanished :S
I hope everyone is doing alright

Re: Old ''let's see your cages'' threads?
The problem was most of the photos didn't show up because they were linked from photobucket, who stopped supporting that service on forums - so you couldn't see the pictures. It's a shame. But if you start a thread asking to see peoples' dwarf hamster set ups I'm sure you'll get lots of ideas It's the same when you put a search in google and look at images - most photos aren't there any more and there isn't much of a visual result comes up.

What a shame, it's always such good inspiration!
But I see what you mean.
And serendipity, I will be getting a syrian this time, that is why I wanted to look at set-ups to get some inspiration for what to get for a non dwarf!
I know there are plenty of threads on here about it though. So just have to look around (:

Re: Old ''let's see your cages'' threads?
As a lot of the photos were no longer displaying due to Photobucket's support of third party hosting, the moderator team decided to 'unsticky' the older threads but they are still there on the boards. They do take some searching for and I found the 2016 thread on the 13th page back when searching for 'Lets see your cages'.
Here's the link for you: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)

That must have taken some digging! Good to know they're still there anyway.

I see what you mean, that's a surprising amount of images not showing :q

Re: Old ''let's see your cages'' threads?
Do have a cage sorted and thinking about layouts? I think you had a detolf before didn't you? Can't go wrong with that. I'm not very good at planning layouts. I start out with an idea, then find some things don't work, or don't fit, then it sort of evolves. But there are some really good layouts out there! Some of it depends on your hamster's personality a bit. Some are bolder and don't mind a fair bit of open space above - some feel more confident being "under" something when out and about. Which is why I like rat sputniks

Re: Old ''let's see your cages'' threads?
I have a alaska and a borneo L (Dimensions: L 99 x W 54 x H 56 cm). I am thinking about getting the borneo from the basement, only thing is that it's quite tall and if the hamster bites the bars at night I won't get any sleep.
The height I can solve, barchewing will be difficult without covering them up and then not being able to see the silly thing.
I do like the dimensions much better though! I will probably build most stuff myself as I'm starting uni next month and have to pay my school materials up front the first day.
But I'm still in the situation that only 1 of my already owned hamster houses is suited for a syrian.
I just remember seeing some people be really creative with the large items and limited space they had available! You as well, you do layouts in a clever way that usually gets multiple uses out of a lot of them (:
I have a bunch of bendy bridges, planning on a shoebox house, i have this from zooplus and i remember you recommending the carrot house (which i can only get in 650g so i hope that's the right size), triangle corner house and sputniks (as you just mentioned again). Is there anything else that you really got a lot of use out of throughout the years?
I would prefer to avoid bark, as I don't feel comfortable cleaning them and usually throw them away whenever a hamster passes. It was fine when I had a full time job, but going back to school I wont be able to do that anymore lol
