]I have a good general knowledge as I work as a veterinary technician and study animal management alongside this.
I'm planning on picking up a Syrian tomorrow and just want to check my cage is appropriate.
The wheel is a wodent junior wheel, and the cage is 4ft x 2.5ft im picking up a dust bath today, is there anything else I need to get or any advise.

Re: New hamster owner
Hello and Welcome to Hamter Central. You must be really excited to welcome your hamster home tomorrow.
Your cage setup looks good - the only thing I would advise in regards to the log tunnel with multiple entrances, houses and skull decoration is the holes can be on the smaller size for a Syrian - I personally don’t like to give anything to my Syrian unless the holes are a minimum of 5cm to a young Syrian (6cm for a fully grown) reduce the risk of them becoming stuck. Rat tunnels are ideal for Syrian hamsters, as are Pringle tubes and also the rosewood hyacinth and Seagrass tunnels -and cardboard boxes can make excellent houses.

Re: New hamster owner
Welcome to HC & congrats on your new ham
Good advice from SKB regarding hole size & houses, depending on where you are you can buy some nice wooden houses although these do need painting inside with a safe non toxic paint (Plastikote water based enamel in the uK) but something like a shoe box with no base & a hole cut out for a door makes a really good house.

Re: New hamster owner
Welcome. Do you have a mesh lid? If not I would get or make one, just be be sure your new hamster can’t escape.
