Cage recommendations for Syrian hamster
Hi, I'm new here I recently acquired a young female hamster from someone who had bought it for their child who ended up petrified of it! She came in a tiny cage with a wheel and bed etc. I'm not happy with the size of cage though and desperately want to get her a new one that is much bigger for her to explore and run around in. I've had a look online but the ones I've liked the reviews haven't been great! I'd rather something not overly expensive but willing to pay a decent price for a good cage for her. It's been about 10 years since my last hamster who came from my local rescue so I'm trying to read up on things again about them. Me and my daughter have named our new addition Evie and I will upload pictures when she's more settled. Thank you for a any help also any suggestions on good toys etc. Would be appreciated.

Re: Cage recommendations for Syrian hamster
What SKB said We have the Barney cage for our Syrian - it's good value - a nice size and comes with a good house and shelf, so you just need a few toys and a Syrian sized wheel - although it does come with a basic 8" wheel which would do for starters.

Re: Cage recommendations for Syrian hamster
I have the zoo zone 2 for my Robo Hamster ( https://www.jollyes.co.uk/zoo-zone-l...l-habitat.html). It is meant for a guinea pig so the bars at the top are large, but that's easily sorted with some mesh which I got from B&Q and held it together with cable ties. He loves it, and I know it's suitable for Syrians too if you wanted a cage without bars. I like the fact that it has easy access at the top and the base is deep enough that I can put a good layer of bedding down for him to burrow in. There's also plenty of space for his toys. I believe the recommended minimum floor space for a hamster is 450 square inches, and this cage provides 790 square inches.

Re: Cage recommendations for Syrian hamster
Thankyou for the replies the first link I thought the cage looked small but looking at the pictures people have shared it's much bigger then I thought and the extra bits that people have added to the cages are amazing! I think I'm deffinatly going to buy either the 1st or 2nd cage and modify it abit like some of the pictures

Re: Cage recommendations for Syrian hamster
i use the alaska cage as it had plenty of space for lots of burrowing, it comes with a shelf, ladder (which i dont use) and a house, and the bars are just the right hight for everything you need. its also very easy to clean and gives lots of floor space. i use lots of tubes, an 11'' wheel, an extra house, a sand pit, a couple of ways to get to the shelf and shredded paper as a substrate.
hope this helps
