Question How much nesting is too much nesting?

Chester has a small house which he sleeps in and I gave him a fair amount of tissue for nesting so that he doesn't get cold. He takes all the tissue shreds I put into the cage into his house, doesn't leave a single strand. His house has a circular hole on the side but I can't see through it anymore because the tissue blocks it but he can peer out of it when he needs to. Is that much nesting too much? Should I take some out or is it ok?

He knows how much he needs, don’t take it out, he’ll get worried that someone is intruding his private place. I know of hamsters that filled their nest with so much nesting material that they couldn’t fit inside. It’s in their nature. The more the better))

There is never too much nesting. hamster knows best. Just give him the chance of multiple nessting area. They like to change up things from time to time.

They build really big nests in winter. Our Syrian has alsopiled bedding up againsthis house in a big heap to insulate it! They are just doing what they need to do to keep warm instinctively. Just put more bedding paper strips out so there are always some there. Theyblocl themselves in to prevent draughts sometimes. You stillneed to be careful this time of year with freezing nights etc, that the room is warm enough. Day and evening might be ok with centralheatingbut I sometimes put a little oilfilled radiator on in the hamster's room, overnight on low or on a timer,in winter.

Hamsters do like lots of bedding in the winter to make big cosy nest - to help keep them warm so you don't need to take any out. They also like to block of their house entrances as well to make it darker inside their house and also stops them being in a draught too. I always leave shredded up piece of tissue around my girls cage and she will take them to her house if needed.

As mentioned above, some hams make huge nests. I've had hams make nests so big, it almost reaches the top! Nest building is fun and natural. It also keeps them warm and secure. No need to remove any, just let him have what he needs
