Default Maxi Duna Multy for syrian?

My precious robo Flynn passed over the bridge a few days ago and his cage is looking very sad without an inhbitant.
I've really missed having a syrian but is this cage too small height wise? I like that there can't be bar biting but seems small for 1 layer, has anyone got any set-up pics please for a syrian? x

I'd say it was absolutely fine. I have my current Syrian in the duna multy and it's fine for him as he doesn't need a massive wheel. I think the maxi multy has the better height of you do need a bigger wheel. I personally like the duna cages and if you section off a bit for lower substrate for the wheel to sit on and to keep the water bottle clear( I use bendy brides like fences) you can have deep bedding elsewhere without the fallout to get with cages.

We also use these and find them just fine for syrians. As long as your hammies is not huge you should be able to fit a wheel in that will be suitable for it.

I've seen some excellent set ups in a maxi duna multy. I think Flower Fairy may have some photos from when her Syrian Woodstock was in one.

The height is 36cm I think - that's maximum external height. A 12" wobust wheel fits but a 12" Silent runner won't I think (it's 35cm tall). So most wheels will fit. It does mean that you'll have very little substrate in the wheel area, so one option is to have the wheel at one end, fenced off with a bendy bridge, and deeper substrate in the rest of the cage.

Unfortunately all my favourite bookmarked images of this cage don't show now due to photobucket not working any more.

I think this might be flower fairys old cage actually. Daisy is very happy in it and the Trixie silent wooden wheel fits with about a cm to spare. Daisy likes piling her bedding up and it doesn't leak out. The only thing that's been slightly problematic is the holes that she likes to gnaw on. I've plugged them with those wooden carrot things. You can see a red one in the picture.

Hope this helps

The maxi duna multy is perfect for syrians. Just make sure the correct size wheel can fit, if it can't i recommend large flying saucer wheels

Large flying saucers are excellent as an extra wheel but not really good as a main wheel -they run better in an upright wheel and can run a bit curved on a flying saucer wheel. If you have space for a 12" flying saucer and an upright wheel it would be nice.

The picture is very helpful My brother has gotten me some ikea knuff in germany ikea (don't have one here) for my parents to bring back so will make some shelves with those. May end up buying another barred cage anyway, only have alaska left and feel its too small for long term lol x

Well if you did get another barred cage, the maxi duna would be in reserve if you decided to get another dwarf hammie . I have the Barney cage for our Syrian and am very happy with it - but if I was getting one now I would probably get the Savic Hamster Plaza - it's a bit taller (48cm ish tall) so needs some extra shelves, but it has a lovely big front opening door and a door-free roof for tying and hanging loads of stuff to - tunnels, sputniks etc. About the same size as the Alexander.

If you're not bothered about a front opening door, then the Barney has a bit more floor area - 54cm deep.
