Can a hamster get itself stuck in something?
I've been on the look out for things to use as little houses for my hamster cage,
I want to do a halloween themed cage this year and while I was on pound land I saw some really cute candle holders that are pumpkins and ghosts and skulls
They're really cute and have quite large holes and the back that I'm sure a dwarf can get in and out off,
But I'm not sure about a syrian, mines quite big away but I've seen her get in some small holes before,
I'm most concerned about getting a house that's got a big enough hole in the back but would they get stuck in the eye holes at the front??

Yes they can get stuck in things, especially rigid toys with holes that aren't big enough. For a syrian the hole would need to be a diameter of 6cm. A small syrian may get away with 5cm diameter but I wouldn't risk it. 6cm minimum really. If they have full pouches they can be as wide as almost 7cm. If it's a wood toy you can block off any holes that are too small by glueing a small piece of wood over them (using something like elmer's school glue which is safe to use). If it's ceramic - I wouldn't get a ceramic house with holes that aren't big enough really

Unfortunately she could get stuck if the hole is big enough to fit her head through

Okay
What if it's not exacly a hole
But a crinkled style mouth?
Would she try to get her head through?

Any opening that isn't 5 or 6cm wide she could get stuck in. Better safe than sorry. There are lots of tutorials for fun home-made toys

Okay!
I'll make sure everything Is safe
Although I like the pumpkins so much I might get them as actual candle holders for the living room anyway!

Do you have a picture of the pumpkins? If the mouth/gap is wide enough it may not need to be 5 or 6 cm tall - it's mainly round holes that aren't big enough that are the issue, although anything, rigid like ceramic won't "give"
