Time for a bigger house

I think our Syrian hamster has grown too big for the last title plastic house he sleeps in. Between him and all the bedding he's stuffed in there the house seems completely full. Also he likes to climb in and out through the window but can barely squeeze through (it's quite funny to watch actually). What's the best way to swap his house for a bigger one? Just transfer the bedding over and put it in the same place?

Keep the new house where the old one was and put the nesting material in the new house.

What house have you got for your hamster?

A house without a base is best. A wooden house is better than a plastic house.

Both are plastic with floors. They came with all the hamster kit (we bought second hand). Will look into wooden houses now tho.

Ceramic or terra-cotta pots laid on the side also make good hideaways, especially since they're a pretty comfortable size.

I would definitely look for a house without a base, wood is preferable but not base is the main thing, you can always use a cardboard box, just cut out a door & remove the bottom if you can't find anything suitable.
I would avoid any house with windows, hamsters can get stuck in them which can lead to injury & a lot of stress if you have to try & free them.

The best house I have found is the wooden "Thistles Cottage" one from p@h.

It is their "guinea pig" sized house (their hamster sized one is far too small!) but there's no way on earth it would be big enough for a fully grown guinea pig.

The dimensions are: H28 x W19.5 x D16cm.

There is no base to it, so no issues with moisture build up and the top comes off in case you need to clean inside the nest or something. Plus, it's wooden so it's safe if gnawed.
