Default Changing cages

I have 3 roborovskis living in a tank. It is only 30 x 60cm and 40cm tall.

I have filled it half way with fitch and they have made a nest just under one of the three built in shelves.

I would love to add more toys and extra wheels. They have two flying saucer wheels and a plastic tunnel atm.

I only got them on Sunday from someone who had a cat that kept being ovdr interested in them.

Once settled I would love to move them into a 100 x 50cm cage with narrow bars. Would it be too risky do you reakon? Opinions welcome.

Upright wheels would take up less floor space, allowing for more toys etc.

A bigger cage would allow lots of space for toys etc. But the move would be stressful and could possibly lead to them falling out. Although the may fall out anyway.

This page has good advice on what size cage for different sized groups of Robos. Are they in the tank they arrived in? And how old are they?

I would think if you upgrade them then something 90cm or 100cm would be a good size and with three of everything in.

Oak Farm Roborovskis

But it might be an idea to let them settle a bit if they've just had a change of environement.

Do you know how old they are & how long they've been together FF?
If they've lived all their lives in a small cage together then moving them to a cage that's so much bigger could be a bit of a risk, it does seem from what I've read (no experience myself) that the larger the cage the more risk of them falling out.
If you want to upgrade it might be better to try something in between two sizes so it's not such a huge change for them & there won't be quite so much for them to possibly become territorial over.

It is the tank that they came in. I wouldnt try any change of environment until they have been with me for a good few weeks.

Hmm you could be right about something not quite so big Cypher. I think I will leave them as they are for now.

Seren is the eldest at one and a half and I dont know how old Daffodil and Maple are. They are all from different litters added in at different times by the (very lucky) previous owner.

They all like to sleep in a big heap in their nest!

If it was me I think I'd be worried that a cage change would make them fall out which would be a shame as they seem so happy and settled together. I think it's wonderful that they are all from different litters and have been added at different times yet they live together happily

Obviously, I don't have any experience with keeping groups but I would probably keep them in their current setup in case a cage swap triggered fighting. They may be totally fine with a different cage though and it's completely your choice. The annoying thing is you just can't know before doing it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

P.S. I'd love a picture of them sleeping in a pile! It sounds heart melting. Reminds me of our cats when we first saw them as kittens sleeping in a heap with the rest of their litter.
