Default Skyline cages/tanks

Looking for a bit of info if possible.

Amber my 9 week old Syrian is in a gabber rex just now that is nearing the end of it's life (second hand and then I've had 4 hams in it!).
I'm trying to find an alternative cage, ideally without bars as she is a loud bar chewer.

I've seen the Skyline Marrakesh and the Skyline Kerry. The Marrakesh looks swish with it's lid and mesh combo but it would be required to sit on a coffee table and the table is only 90cm long. The Kerry is also very nice and appealing with a smaller tag but my concern is that it is topped with bars and if I was to give Amber a means to climb (shelf etc), she would potentially just go straight back to chew chew chewing.....

Have people any experience with these tank/cages and are there any alternatives out there that I have missed??

Thanks,
Caroline

Hi. The Marrakesch is quoted as 96cm wide. As the glass is base it might be an issue if the thing it was sitting on wasn't quite wide enough - any chance of extending the table slightly?! Just so the base is on something flat. Although it has wood end panels they are wipeproof and painted with something to help waterproof the wood.

Another option might be the Ferplast Maxi duna multy which is less expensive. About the same size as the Marrakesch - slightly deeper, which is better, even though it has a curved base - it's a good size and would easily sit on a 90cm table.

I assume the Gabber rex has some kind of bar ventilation on top? The maxi duna has small bar spacing (about 7mm) so less easy to chew and the bars aren't just metal they're coated with something I think. It also costs less than the Marrakesch

Both cages look good. The one with the mesh with smaller gaps would make bar chewing harder.

Layout can effect bar chewing. So adjusting the layout could reduce or stop the bar chewing.
Also check that the wheel and water bottle are working, as hamsters can chew out of frustration.

A nice dark nest is best, deep substrate and tunnels, a variety of chewable toys/items, scatter feeding and food hiddden in toilet paper tubes or boxes can help distract a hamster from bar chewing. Out of cage time can help to.

See the managing bar chewers thread for more ideas.

Thanks, I'm experienced in managing bar chewers...I think!
Amber is my 4th ham and my 4th bar chewer. I think it is mostly down to attention seeking as it started when she settled and realised that I'm Mum and a means of getting out.
I'm mainly just wanting to replace the cage with something sturdier and if I can, stop the bar chewing. Amber is by far the largest ham I have had and is only 9 weeks old so will definitely gain and grow for a while to come!

I think the Marrakesh has a supported glass base meaning that is isn't the glass that will be in contact with the table but ideally I don't want an overhang. My flat is an OK size but it looks easily cluttered. I'm currently ransacking the internet to see if I can get a new inexpensive coffee table!

Thanks again

I have just ordered the Skyline Marrakesh on Zooplus so I'll let you know what it's like and hopefully put up some pics! Don't have a hammy resident yet but hoping to adopt a dwarf soon.

Oh and I just had an idea... How about getting two Lack tables from IKEA?

Had a wee giggle to myself there. I ordered the Marrakesh last night after having been to IKEA to buy two of the square Lack tables!!
Hopefully the tank will arrive in the next few days. x

The Marrakesh arrived last night and it has been built. My goodness it is big!!
Still to move Amber in to it, that will be later today after work. Can't wait, she'll love the space. x

Don't know what happened, I attached something and it has vanished. Will try and put a better pic up later on when I'm home from work and it is set up.
