Default Lining my hamster cage with tile

Hello everyone! I was not satisfied with the size of my hamsters 480sqin bin cage so I am currently making one that is 845sqin! my Syrian is very good at pottying in his potty tray but I was thinking about getting tile cut and placing it at the bottom as a "liner"for the wooden base. I do not want to make this a perminant floor but for the Texas summer I think it might be a good way to keep my hammy cool. Has anyone tried this or would a linoleum be better? I have seen videos where hamsters have chewed on he linoleum and that worries me!

Never put linoleum in the cage, chewing it would be inevitable & dangerous.
What kind of tiles were you thinking of using?
If you've got a wooden cage then the best thing is to paint it with a non toxic paint not sure what you can get in the US though.

I would suggest a natural DIY wood seal rather than using any sort of tiles or storebought paint. There are many recipes available with a quick Google, and if you're not certain that a particular recipe is hamster safe all you'd need to do is ask!

Paint is quite tricky,as even though a product might say non toxic that isn't always true with hamsters.Stick with soy paint or a very high quality authentic milk paint and a natural DIY wood seal if you want color underneath the seal, but it really isn't important as that won't show once substrate and such is added!
