Default Cage for big Syrian

I've got a two year old Syrian who's quite large:

We bought him a Duna Funa cage when he was 8 weeks old, he was smaller but we didn't expect him to grow much! We soon found that the wheel was useless because he couldn't fit in it. So instead he'd just walk on the top of it. So after a month or so I replaced the wheel with a 6", and that was still too small, so I got a nice 8" one and that seems like the ideal size.

Here he is in the newer wheel:

The only issue is that to fit this wheel, I had to take out the top shelf. So what he is left with is a bit boring. I try to play with him lots, but I know he must be bored in his cage.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cage that's a good size (i.e. room for some interesting toys) and also has some tubes, etc.?

Have a look in the cage review section and see if you can see anything you like. Some are only available on e bay now but do pop up occassionally. Perhaps the Savic Hamster Heaven would suit you as it does have tubes and is very spacious. Also the Imac Fantasy which can be extended up the way with the extension packs. The Duna fun is an excellent cage for your syrian though. You may be better to get a wheel on a stand like the Junior Wodent Wheel and look to fit that in the cage rather than buying a whole new cage!
Your hammy is very cute. What is he called?

I have the Duna fun for our little Syrian girl, Sugar, but she is nowhere near the size of your big boy! I did consider that maybe at some stage I could use the external tube to link to another unit and extend in that way, maybe that is something you could consider?

You could go with adding another Duna Fun, they come up on ebay regularly. I got 2 of them for about £40 inc. postage. This is what I came up with...

I got a Ferplast Criceti 15 the other day. It is fantasic. Really big! It doesnt come with tubes, but it has the option of adding them.

I got it for one of my babies from Pacha's litter. Due to the size of the parents (well Mum anyway!) she's likely to get very big and chunky.
(I'm getting her a bigger wheel - pay day tomorrow!!)

I used living world big ones for all my syrians, they give more than enough room for them to live in. You can find them on zooplus's website.

I was wondering what cage you went for in the end Teaboy? My Syrian hamster is about 10 weeks old and I can already tell she's already pretty big so I'm also looking for a new cage. The one I have currently is so small it seems cruel to keep her in it. I do let her out of the cage for a good run around every day though.
