Question Attaching a silent spinner to a bin cage?

I've decided that I want to attach Tangerine's silent spinner to the wall of his bin cage, mainly because the stand is barely tall enough to hold the wheel above the bedding and it often gets stuck or squeaky because there is too much bedding under it. I've taken the stand off the wheel however I am unsure as to how I'm supposed to attach the wheel itself to the cage. I'm going to drill a hole for the axel to go through but I don't know which part of the axel should be inside the cage or outside of the cage. Help is appreciated!

Hmmm....Do you have mesh on the side of the cage? If so, is it 1/2 inch? If it is, it'll be really simple to attach the wheel to the mesh a 1/4 inch part of the vertical wire so that instead of a square, it's a rectangle. Trim as many vertical parts as needed. Attach as so:

If you don't, I'm afraid the only way would to cut a rectangular slit in the bin and then put the wheel in.
Either way, the location of the wheel is completely permanent, so choose wisely!

Unfortunately I do not have any mesh on the sides of the cage :/ the mesh is on the lid.

I did attach a wheel successfully to a bin cage a while back, but I'd have to think back to how I did it. From what I recall, I drilled a hole into the side of the bin, then pulled the yellow plastic piece that attaches to the stand and put the screw on it through the hole. I also added a steel plate in between the plastic bit and the bin for stability and tightness. Then I hung the silent spinner on the screw inside and screwed the cap back on. It worked pretty well for me, but the bin will need to be meshed over the home if you ever intend to use it again without the wheel. Good luck (I may be able to get pictures for you if you really need them)

I wouldn't use a drill but instead go for a wood burning knife. This will melt through the plastic without the very big risk of cracking the plastic with the drill, which is best avoided They're even available at Walmart, but most arts and crafts stores should carry them.

I was going to mention that, a drill definitely isn't the most efficient unless you can get a special bit and are very skilled with a drill. Wood burning knives are much easier to use

Ok, I'll see if we've got one in the garage.

Thanks for the advice Drago, yes I'd appreciate some pictures
