Re: DIY Cage Platforms
flowerfairy glad my thread has been of service to you!
serendipity is this the savic rat tube that you mean? It looks really good to me.
Savic Play Tunnel Giant Tube | Great deals on small pet accessories at zooplus!
Also, can anyone tell me whether this wood is suitable for use in a hamster cage? Thanks.

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
How high up should the platforms be? The cage is 50cm tall in total (the base accounts for about 16cm of that).

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
That wood is fine, any kiln dried pine is ok.
There's no right height for shelves really, it depends what's above & below them, about half way up might be ok but it's hard to visualise, just make sure there's no big drops anywhere he could fall.

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
Thanks Cypher. Do you mean halfway up the bars (which would be a height of 33cm), or halfway up the total height of the cage (which would be 25cm up)?

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
Would 33cm be too high up for a platform?

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
The platform height would also need to take into account the depth of substrate in the base of the cage and how big Mushu is. He needs to be able to stand on his back legs in the meerkat pose.

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
Thanks CMB. So, that would be 25cm from the floor of the cage - or 25cm up from the top of the base of the cage (33cm total)?

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
I would start with approximately 33cm from the base, depending on toys etc to be used in the base.

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
Awesome Will do 33cm up then. I just worried that might be a little tall so wanted to check. They will be nice wide platforms, so hopefully that’s ok!

Re: DIY Cage Platforms
Show us a picture once done so we can assess the fall risks etc. Having deep substrate will help cushion any falls.
