DIY 2 Billy Extensions

Hello Everyone one!
New member and new hamster mama here. I just got my first hamster since I was a little kid. I'm trying to learn and give him the best.

Anyways I made him a bin cage was is nice but I had it in my head that it wasn't what I wanted in the end but would work for a while. So recently I ordered 2 billy extensions to create the double cage that ErinsAnimals has a video for.

Well now I have 2 questions. Having 2 is enough floor space for my Syrian? And also I have discovered that his wheel is taller than the shelf walls. Suggestions or ideas for dealing with this and the lid?

I would say that it is a big enough cage for a Syrian, but you have run into the common problem of not having enough height for the wheel.

If you scroll down to number 8 on this page, you can see how you could potentially make a lid to allow height for the wheel.

I suggest making a raised lid. It will probably be more difficult (I'm rubbish at DIY), but then you could have some added height. I think Erin's Animals doesn't have a lid on hers, but I wouldn't suggest that, especially not for a Syrian.
