The regular Duna Fun is far from that! The Duna Fun(regular)is a mere 55 cm x 47 cm,which along with the overall design make it a poor choice for any species even for temporary housing in my opinion. The Duna Fun Large is still too small, being 71.5 cm x 46 cm externally(and even less internally!).

An 80 cm x 40 cm cage that doesn't lose space due to sloping cage sides is extremely unlikely.Even then,I think it would still only house a more nervous robo or small Chinese but would not even hit the minimum a small Russian should have.

The Hamster Heaven cage I linked to before is only 80x50 so not that much bigger, if you can manage something that size it really is a nice cage for a dwarf ham, I've kept Russians & Chinese in mine & there's plenty of space for a wheel, good house, sand bath & toys with room left to forage & burrow.
If you really can't fit anything bigger than 70x40 you can compensate to some extent but not entirely by providing a good sized play pen with lots of toys & enrichment for your ham to enjoy but I would suggest that anyway whatever cage you have!

Thanks Cypher! If I can find a cage that is 80x40 that is perfect, but otherwise because I will have to put the cage on the ground. Can I fit a Russian in a cage like that if I find one with deep bottom and lots of toys?

If you can find something that size it would be ok, a little cramped maybe but if it did have a deep base for lots of substrate & your ham had lots of toys & enrichment but not so bad.

I'd say probably better than putting the cage on the floor if you got a bigger one, but if you have floor space could you get a table or shelf or something that a cage could go onto?

I'm going to buy the Ikea kallax which is 77 wide and 39 deep. I could fit a cage up there that is 80x40, but then I do have to find a cage like that.

It is a struggle to find good cages sometimes. An overhang would be fine by the way,so for example 10 cm more width to get an 80 cm long and 50 cm wide cage would be entirely possible. In fact, there's potential for even a 100 cm long cage with 50 cm width instead!

On a side note,Ikea Lack tables would make a good stand if you used two. They're just under 55 cm in each direction, and luckily tend to be quite inexpensive.Since the bottom is open you'd still have space if you wanted to stack storage bins underneath.

May I just remind everyone that this forum does not have absolute minimum cage size rules other than those stated by the National Hamster Council. The often quoted 80x50 minimum as previously stated by the RSPCA has now been withdrawn in favour of a more general 'as large as you can' guideline and whilst different countries and organisations may have different rules, it is important to remember that different hamsters will have different needs.

Any sizes or cage recommendations that you see posted are the opinions of the individual poster and whilst these can be useful in helping members to find solutions, it is important to remember that people will have different limitations and means available to them.

Thank you for your co-operation.

A Russian will be absolutely fine in the Duna Multy or Duna Fun Large (both 71x46cm) and both by ferplast

The standard duna multy is about that size and is a good size for a dwarf hammy This is the cheapest place I know to get it from. It comes in various different colours (base) - I think it's pot luck what colour you get but you can always email to request red or blue eg.

Cage Duna Multy

Here are some examples of set ups in one, for a dwarf hammy. If you scroll down the page there are quite a few examples of how it can work. The larger ones are the maxi duna multy which is 100cm. Most of the set ups are in the standard duna multy 70cm by 40cm ish.
