Re: Cages. Height vs floor space
You could get an 8" wheel temporarily. There is a 20cm Trixie wheel but she might grow out of it. You would probably find the Alaska cage doesn't really take up much more space. It's about 26cm longer and 18cm deeper. The height is about the same. It's a good basic cage for a Syrian and not expensive. Then you could get a 28cm wheel rather than end up having to buy a 20cm and then possibly needing to upgrade it. Postage is free with Zooplus when getting a cage.
I know some members have also managed to get a refund for a cage, even after it's been used, saying it's not suitable. You could try asking Jollye's and say you'd bring it back when the new one arrives.
Yes most pet shops do sell unsuitable cages! It's just profit margin really then people end up having to buy another one. Some stores, Pets at Home I think, sell the Hamster Heaven.
Otherwise, you could try and fit a wheel in the current cage, which might mean taking a shelf out and then there might be fall risks from a height.

Alaska cage?
We've had a change around, moved the piano into the kitchen, and we are going for a bigger cage, once we get a sideboard to stand it on.
The things we do for our furries eh!

Yes, the Alaska is an excellent cage. Many people use it for their Syrians with no problem. I'd definitely recommend this cage if you can get hold of it!

Re: Cages. Height vs floor space
He he - yes I rearranged the house to fit an 80cm cage in - then found I had enough space for a 100cm one I'm sure she will love the Alaska cage. If you get the Trixie wheel from zooplus at the same time as a cage you don't pay postage on it. But it's not too expensive on Amazon either. You'll just need a house and toys and you've probably already got those. And plenty of bedding and torn up strips of white toilet paper for nesting. I think your hammy will be very happy with the upgrade! The cage also has a great front door - it's large and with opening at the front it's easier to interact with the hammy and easy to get things in and out.

Ours is the 80cm. We didn't want it on the floor so it will be on a low table
