I think it's even more common in US hamsters but still not rare in the UK by any means.Perhaps you and many others could've gotten lucky with many hamsters with good genetics or something along those lines!The only major difference between UK and US shavings would be that in the UK you'd often get dust extracted shavings,but that hasn't exactly stopped UK hamsters from having allergic reactions.

It could even be that like dogs and other animals allergic reactions present themselves in many different ways,perhaps even ways that some people wouldn't notice or if they did notice they wouldn't really question it.
