Absolutely +1 to the suggestion of rocks. Smooth stones are best for nail maintenance, but you can use rocks that are a bit rougher if you wish. Kopi loves climbing all about on her rocks and they really do add so much texture and enrichment

Actually smooth stones are not useful for nail maintenance.Rough stones are what actually help Smooth stones can still be decent enrichment though,at least for hamsters that enjoy climbing them.

I have rough sandstone rocks in Esmeralda's bins - the ones that look as though a landscape has been painted on them. I have a large one under her drinking bottle, for two reasons: firstly her nails get trimmed when she goes to drink, and secondly a drip shows up on the rock more than it would on the substrate. So I know that the bottle is working and that she's drinking OK

I forgot to mention but for those in the US Kaytee make an excellent terracotta tunnel that doubles as a good foraging platform.It is one of the harder products to find,but I know Petsupermarket should carry it!
