Smile Suitable bin cage?

I'd like to make a bin cage for my hamster and have found a storage box. I've seen it in person but have found it online to ask if it is a good enough size for my dwarf hamster. I will have to modify them to add chicken wire in the lid so air can come in and out. Any tips would be helpful too! Also if this is not a good size could someone recommend the size needed. Thank you!

I think this would be a good size for a dwarf, as long as it's tall enough to fit the correct size wheel in. I would recommend using wire mesh instead of chicken wire as I'm not completely sure if chicken wire is safe (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

It really depends on the species as to whether or not the size is appropriate. For Russians(including hybrids)it wouldn't be that good, but you could use two if directly connected(remove part of the sides to each bin, position where they're touching and attach with zip ties in a similar way to adding zip ties to attach mesh to the lids of bins).

Make sure the wire is square shaped and not just any sort of wire mesh/hardware cloth/chicken wire,as not every type is suitable. The vinyl coated type is not suitable at all,and the ones without square shaped holes aren't a good choice either. For the actual spacing you want 1/2 inch or 1.27 cm spacing

I have one of those that I've used as a temporary cage & personally I found it very hard to set up as it's so cramped! Compared to a barred cage there really isn't much space, it is hard to find bins that are big enough.
You would just about get a 20cm wheel in if you kept substrate to about 10cm which isn't much really.
If you're set on a bin as opposed to a cage it's not too bad, I've only used RUB so I'm not sure if any other bins come in suitable sizes, I do have the largest RUB but tbh for the price you could buy a good barred cage.
