Default Hamster wheels

Hi all, has anyone else had problems with the large Rolly wheel, I have found they are too fragile for my syrian hamster, she has had 4 in a matter of 3 months. The longest lasting one lasted 5 weeks, the shortest one 3 days.... the problem is with the spindle, it snaps where it joins the wheel to the cage fastening. I do have a very active hamster who loves her wheel, she is not particularly large and is only 6 months old, as this wheel is advertised for rats as well I can't understand why it is so fragile. Has anyone any ideas of a stronger one, I like the open style of wheel.

yep, pretty much everyone has problems with them! I'd suggest the comfort wheel, the wodent wheel (not open though) or the karlie bogie wheel

The plastic seems to have been changed and lots of people are having this problem.
Contact Savic customer services and explain what is happening and they normally send you a bag of spindles for free. If enough people complain surely they will look at the plastic consistancy and upgrade it.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I contacted Savic but had not joy with a reply. Instead I tried a little Diy and used a metal bolt instead of the plastic one and fitted it onto a wooden frame. My hamster seemed to be pleased to have her wheel back in use and so far, 3 days on, its still intact. Perhaps I can send the plans to the Savic planning section for future wheels...
speak to you all soon, Honeybee
